Water Tower Openair Theatre

The octagonal water tower (viztorony; Map pp78-9), erected in 1911 in the north-central part of the island, rises 66m above the open-air theatre (szabadtériszínpad; §§ 3404883), which is used for opera, plays and concerts in summer. The tower now houses the Lookout Gallery (Kiállító Galería; @ 340 4520; adult/child 200/1 OOFt; Sl1am-7pm May-0ct), which exhibits some interesting folk craft and contemporary art on the ground floor. But the main reason for entering is to climb the 153 steps for a stunning 360-degree view of the island, Buda and Pest from the cupola terrace.
